The natural pools (Las Salinas de Agaete) are located on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, near the small harbour of Puerto de las Nieves, just outside the village of Agaete.
Agaete is reachable from anywhere on the island via the GC-2 coastal road or the GC-1 via Las Palmas:
- From Las Palmas — approx. 35 minutes
- From Maspalomas — approx. 60–70 minutes
- From Playa del Inglés — approx. 65–75 minutes
- From Puerto de Mogán — approx. 70–80 minutes
Yes — there is a car park near the natural pools at Puerto de las Nieves. We recommend arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the busiest periods, especially in summer.
The best light at Agaete depends on the season and location:
- Gyllene timmen — 1 hour before sunset for warm, dramatic light on the volcanic rock
- Tidig morgon — soft light, calm water and very few visitors at the pools
- Midday — the turquoise colour of the water is most vivid in bright sunlight
Light, neutral colours create the most striking contrast against the dark volcanic rock:
- White, cream and sand tones — classic, clean contrast against black rock
- Light blue and turquoise — beautiful echo of the ocean and pools
- Comfortable shoes with grip — the volcanic rock can be uneven and slippery
